GPS Track Upload / Map Annotations (optional)

Upload a GPX, KML, or CSV file

Our site works with GPX files, Google's KML files, and Comma-Separated Value files (CSV). Upload any of these using the upload function above. We store the data as KML. GPX and CSV files are automatically converted into KML. The format for a CSV file is: "[longitude], [latitude], [elevation], [time]". If you use a different file format, Google Earth is an excellent way to convert different GPS file formats into a KML file.

To convert another file format into KML:
(1) Open Google Earth -- it is a free download if you don't already have it,
(2) File -> Open, then select your GPS file (you may need to export it from your GPS device's software first),
(3) If given the option to create KML Tracks or KML LineStrings, choose KML Tracks (uncheck KML LineStrings) -- we've found LineStrings creates unnecessary markers,
(4) You should see your GPS track in Google Earth. You can now add other markers such as parking spots or trail heads,
(5) When you're all done, choose Files -> Save Place As, set "Save as type" to KML, and you're finished!'
