I don't think there is any better place to view and photograph, up close, such a huge abundance and diversity of bird life, than the Comox Valley and in particular the Courtenay River Estuary. The winter months bring an incredible amount of waterfoul and other species who migrate here to take advantage of our warm climate. A visit to the tip of the Union Bay spit, Deep Bay spit, or a short stroll along the Courtenay Riverway walkway during the winter, you can expect to see more species of bird life in an hour or two, than most people can hope to view in a lifetime. Although the quantities are fewer in the spring and summer, this is an excellent time to view the young as they venture out of the nests for their first time, always keeping close to their mothers, as they curiously explore their new surroundings. I have included images of a few of our unique species to get you started, now grab your camera , binoculars, a cup of coffee, find a quiet place to sit along the shores of the Comox Valley, winter, spring, summer, or fall, and try to discover some of the others, you won't be disappointed. Happy bird watching ... !
