Watch the above video for a tour of Mt Becher near Courtenay BC.

Mount Becher is a fabulous hike for the beginner mountain hiker and one of my favourites.  You get amazing views right at the start and it just keeps getting better.  Even in the summer about half way up you'll likely get to enjoy snow while (hopefully) being warmed by the hot sun.

Mt Becher is only 30 minutes from Courtenay, and easily accessed by taking the well maintained Forbidden Plateau Road all the way to the end until you reach the old ski hill (also know as Wood Mountain).

It is a 3 hour hike with a 750m elevation gain.  At the top you're graced with a gorgeous view: a great view of the ocean, both cities of Campbell River and Courtenay, the Comox Glacier, Comox Lake, and even a side view of Mount Washington alpine resort.

Questions and comments welcomed!  If you have some photos of video from this or other hikes, create your own 'Your Comox Valley' post and show them off!

August 2012-I tried the old trail system starting very next to the top of the old forbidden plateau chairlift. this old overgrown hiking trail has been well thought ( board walks, nice design ) but is hard to follow and peters-out in many spots. The nice thing about it, is that it follows the south ridge and offers very nice vistas with old forest and ponds, you feel away from it all. You can connect back to the regular park trail further up to the right. Be ready for some bush-waking.
